Katamari Damacy!

I’m about 3 years late.

But as they say, “Better late than never”… I just got my hands on a copy of Katamari Damacy.

Katamari Damacy was a sleeper hit in 2004 for the PS2. A quirky mix of catchy Japanese music, a galaxy of knick-knacks, running around maniacally and overall strangeness.

The premise of the game is a devlishly simple one.

Your father, The King of Cosmos (this lovely fellow above, who happens to be totally potty, or maybe he’s on pot) wants you to go to Earth and collect various items for him, ranging from small sweets, to playing cards, to stationery to larger items.

You push around this little ball called the Katamari and things stick to it, and as more and more things build up, it gets bigger and bigger. And the craziness begins. The challenge bit of the game is where you need to make a Katamari of a certain size, within a time limit.

Early stages start off in the house…

(To give some scale to things, you’re the tiny green fellow below the fire extinguisher)

… then move out onto the street….

(you can just barely make out the miniscule purple Prince at the bottom below the wooden barrel)

…. and pretty soon the scale of things starts getting riduculous…

…. you can even roll up ocean liners and even a giant squid (look carefully, it’s there)…

Well the pictures pretty much speak for themselves. This is one rolicking good game and it has everything which pushes my buttons. 🙂

KATAMARI!!

PS: The soundtrack is absolutely killer. I wonder if there’s a CD of it out there somewhere…
