A Day Without Immigrants

“A Day Without Immigrants” in San Diego, California May 1, 2006. Organisers called for immigrants to boycott school, work, and making purchases to show their political and economic clout as the U.S. Congress debates strengthening immigration laws.

    Here in Singapore, we have over 130,000 foreign workers from the Indian sub-continent. Workers from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh flock to Singapore to seek employment as cleaners, construction workers and labourers.

    Undoubtedly, they play a very important part in the functioning of our country.

    In a country of only 4 million, 130,000 is a sizeable figure.
